Talk: Impact of Climate Change on Birds

Simon Griffith, an academic based at Macquarie University for the past ten years, conducts research into the behaviour, ecology and evolution of birds. He previously worked at UNSW, and the universities of Imperial College, Oxford, Uppsala (Sweden), and Leicester. He conducts a lot of his work in the field with recent projects based in the desert near Broken Hill, and the tropical savannah across the Top End.

A current focus of much of the research in his group is to understand how Australian birds cope with an often extreme, and changing climate. In this talk Simon will show how birds try and time their breeding seasons to best fit times of good weather and abundant food, and how the changing climate is providing new challenges to birds right across Australia.
